EJB References read-only display

The Borland Management Console and the Deployment Descriptor Editor (DDEditor) have a read-only, graphical display of EJB and resource references on the References tab. The References view displays interdependencies between EJB JARs, WARs, and clients within an EAR. It also displays inter-module links, or dependencies between EJBs in different modules. References are displayed at the JAR, WAR and EAR levels, and are only available for deployed and hosted modules.

To view references for deployed and hosted modules, select a module under the Deployed or Hosted modules nodes in the Borland Management Console, or open one in the DDEditor. Select the References tab in the work pane.

The following EJB and resource references are viewable on the References tab:

• Local EJB link: Displays an EJB that uses another local EJB (ejb-local-ref), and whose reference is a symbolic link or ejb-link. The local EJB link can be set in the DDEditor by selecting the bean and checking the IsLink box on the EJB Local References tab.
• Remote EJB link: Displays an EJB that uses another remote EJB (ejb-ref and whose reference is a symbolic link or ejb-link. The remote EJB link can be set in the DDEditor by selecting the bean and checking the IsLink box on the EJB References tab.
• Inter-module EJB link: Displays an EJB in a module that links to an EJB in another module. Inter-module EJB linking uses ejb-link and can be set in the DDEditor on the EJB References tab.
• External local link or JNDI reference: Displays EJBs, JARs or WARs that link to an external local JNDI reference. This reference uses ejb-local-ref and is set in the DDEditor, EJB Local References tab. Enter a JNDI Name in the JNDI field.
• External remote link or JNDI reference: Displays EJBs, JARs or WARs that link to an external remote JNDI reference. This reference uses ejb-ref and is set in the DDEditor, EJB References tab. You must enter a JNDI Name in the JNDI field.
• Unresolved link or empty JNDI reference: Displays EJBs, JARs, or WARs that have unresolved references. Either a link or JNDI name must be specified. These can be specified in the DDEditor on the EJB References tabs.
• Resource reference: Displays EJBs, JARs, or WARs that link to an external resource such as a JDBC datasource, JMS connection factory, etc. This reference uses resource-ref and is set in the DDEditor, Resource References tab.

The References panel allows for several viewing options. The following gives a brief description of the view options.

• Module layout: Displays the modules in an EAR. It does not show dependencies.
• Tiered layout: Displays a client/server tiered layout. The client resides on the left and is followed by server tiers to the right, session beans, entity beans, and data resources. The dependencies are displayed.
• Circular layout: Displays EARs, WARs, JARs, EJBs, session beans, entity beans, clients, resources and their dependencies in a circular format.
• External nodes view: You can toggle the external nodes references visibility, choosing to view them or not. The "Show All" button shows all nodes and references.
• Legend: Toggles a view of the references legend.
